For the first day at Cardigan, we took a bus to get to the lodge. Once we were there, we went over to the field for a few activities, and to introduce ourselves. After touring the lodge, and getting sorted into bunks, there was a period to get stuff unpacked and change into hiking gear. Once downstairs, while eating lunch, hiking groups were assigned, as well as who our guide would be.
Then we went out for a hike to Welton Falls, sketching a cellar, trees, and mushrooms along the way. While walking, there were a few edible plants that were pointed out, such as the Indian Wild Cucumber, a plant identified by its 6 leaves, and a few kinds of mushrooms, such as Witches Jelly. Once there many climbed on rocks and sketched out the falls. It had started raining while we were there, causing us to also have to wear raincoats. While hiking back, we stopped a few times along the way, digging up a few wild cucumbers to eat as we hiked. We also heard a story from Max, our group leader, about the creation of Hemlock trees. Back at the lodge, we gathered in our meeting room, talking about the hike for a bit before being allowed to go to free time.
During this, id decided to take a nap and a brief shower. Then, after free time, dinner was served downstairs, dinner being spaghetti, and then dessert which was brownies. After eating, and having a bit more free time, we went outside, playing a game of Marco/polo, though it changed to bat/moth. Then, after heading back inside, a few stories were shared by Mr.Wooler, one of which was about Blackbeard. We then went up to our bunks, talking for a while before finally heading to sleep.
